The Sustainable Trust sit on the committee of 'Clean Cornwall' a countywide initiative to do just what it says.

Ban the bag

We have been co-ordinating the campaign to ‘Ditch the Plastic, make Helston Fantastic’ in partnership with other groups. http://helstonbagfree.co.uk

Following the success of Rebecca Hosking in Modbury, we have been working towards a plastic free Cornwall. Cornish beaches have the worst litter problem in the UK.

Contributors to ‘Ban the Bag’ the Alistair Sawday community toolkit book, we continue working to reduce plastic use and irresponsible disposal for our wildlife’s sake.

Sustainable fashion

Kitts Couture, Chapel Street, Penzance

Kitts Couture, Chapel Street, Penzance. Now one of the top five retro clothes shops outside London, founded 20 years ago by managers of the Sustainable Trust.

Kitts couture was also recently reported as one of the best 50 boutiques in the UK.

Making charcoal

Arisings, waste from invasive woodland species in a controlled burn to produce cooking charcoal. 40,000 tons of charcoal are flown into the UK every year. Much of it is a by-product of tropical logging. Buy local or FSC Forest Stewardship Council certified products.

Electric December

In 2003 the Sustainable Trust made a digital short for www.electricdecember.org describing how to make a Christmas card and present from natural and waste materials. Electric December was in the form of an Advent Calendar. Our contribution was presented on Day 8.
